With your Beautiful Blue Eyes
And Pigtailed blonde hair
The way you spoke with sentence unclear
Not really saying, what you intended to say
But smiling the moment you spoke the words.
I watched your momma work with you
Repeating every word with you
Until you got it right
And still you did not cry
You did not pout or moan or whine
You smiled and laughed your little laugh
And went on about your world
The joys you bring
We do not miss
Even as you’re struggling
Because you smile with heart and soul
And sink in your very soles
Especially as I watch you with your sister
To see you tuck her in
To kiss her goodnight
No one would ever know
That words sometimes lose you
The meanings not always coming through
And yet your resilience only makes me love you more
You see a world without the fence
And grab it as you can
With little flaws

But you take it every step.
You inspire me to be better
To find joy in such small things
