Fire-Lit Sky

Fire-lit Sky

Pools in darkness, collecting light
Sparkling, glittering
shining so bright. lighted sun but in night’s sky
watching, flickering
reflecting in their eyes
with each loud exclaim, passengers waiting
to see why they’ve came
eyes all alight
they watch where it glitters, so all little flickers
catch waiting eyes in a softly rippling looking glass mirror
the calm in the air, blows each dancing ember
whistling as they shoot to the sky
then to meet with their end provided by reflections
and falling like raindrops
cast out by the night
the flames die away
the night is still. darkness. nothing lighting the way
sighs come from nothing
the beast chokes. gasps. and sputters to life
drifting away from the colored sky lights
each face colored rosie, cheeks cool to touch
hoping, praying
as flames die away
that same time next year, to again be set deep in fired skies
watching, staying
for the lights kiss the sky, and shine through darkest night
to see mirrored that amazement
and to feel without saying. that heart beats as one beat
the night drawing to its end
you tuck them inside, and tell them goodnight.
